Less than three weeks after I wrote about Microsoft’s Office Live Workspace falling short compared to eXpresso, I received an email announcing an update to the service. The addition that caught my eye was the new add-in that enables users to open and save Live Workspace documents from within Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint programs.
This is the feature we use the most in eXpresso, and it is also what I thought was lacking from Microsoft’s Live Workspace. The added advantage of Workspace’s add-in is that it works with the 3 most popular Microsoft programs, while eXpresso currently offers only spreadsheet sharing with Excel. I downloaded the add-in, and it has been very easy to use since installation.
Microsoft still needs to work on the ability to edit documents directly from the Live Workspace website, but this new add-in definitely increases its value. We are looking forward to seeing what other new features will appear before the product officially comes out of beta.
