Scam SpamHave you noticed an up-tick in the amount of ‘get rich quick online’ spam you’ve gotten over the past few weeks? If so, then you’re not alone. Not only is there more of it, its seems to be getting harder to differentiate from legitimate email. So, we’re putting a spotlight on it, and helping our readers see through the scammers’ promises.

The scams we see most usually have to do with improving your website’s search engine rankings, or attracting new customers online. That’s why we’ve started a new blog series called ‘Daily Junk where we pick apart some of the more recent internet marketing related email scam / spam we’ve received – line by line. We’ll have a little fun with it by poking holes in the ridiculous claims some scammers make – that’s the fun part. But the real idea is to help raise awareness, and to help you root out those scammers yourself – especially the ones offering too-good-to-be-true internet marketing “secrets.” Ultimately the goal is to explain to our readers what parts of the email should tip you off that the email is, in fact, junk.

Just this past week I was contacted by a client who forwarded me a scam email message she had received that told her she needed to purchase a service to help her website get better search engine rankings. Thankfully she asked me whether she should take advantage of the offer before purchasing the “very reasonably priced” kit. But she didn’t initially recognize the email as a scam, and that’s where the Daily Junk series is aimed to help.

Our more savvy readers may find our commentary quite obvious, but in my experience not everyone is as familiar with the things that differentiate spam from “real” email (aside from the fact that its unsolicited).

So, we’ve created a new blog topic called ‘Daily Junk’ – you can see it hyperlinked at the bottom of this and every other ‘Daily Junk’ message (in the ‘Topics’ section). Just click that topic to veiw all the other ‘Daily Junk emails.
