Consumers Will Give Their Email and Twitter Names for a Chance to Win an iPod Touch
Posted by: Carolyn Young
So, I was visiting the Mozy blog today, and I read that they are promoting a ‘Guess the Prize’ Contest where participants can win an iPod Touch. What’s interesting is that people qualify to win the iPod Touch by guessing what an even bigger prize is – and they find clues to what this big prize is by regularly scouring Mozy’s Twitter page for hints. Mozy will be tweeting clues during the next couple days, and the first 3 people who guess correctly will win an iPod Touch.
What a great example of how a business can effectively use Twitter to promote communication by consumers. They have to find the clues on Mozy’s Twitter account, and then email their guesses to one of Mozy’s employees. So, in order to participate, consumers have to use two different communication channels, providing not one, but two methods of contacting them back…all the while becoming thoroughly immersed in and informed about Mozy’s brand.
We have talked about how Mozy uses humor and originality to make a pretty mundane subject (they’re in the online data backup biz), interesting and even entertaining. By using humor in their customer communications and by having contests (key: giving away actual, tangible prizes), Mozy is really getting the word about their product. Nice work, Mozy.
